- Leios proposes three new block separations of the current ADA chain.
A Cardano (ADA) fanboy has created a Twitter thread to explain what they believe to be the next big thing to happen on the Cardano blockchain.
In response to a question about the future of the Cardano network, Twitter user KtorZ asserted that Ouroboros Leios would be the most promising upgrade to reach the Cardano network.
Firstly, the analyst claimed that within the 20 seconds in which the Cardano blockchain propagates a new block, its nodes largely remain idle. They argued that while a node serializes and sends out data to its peers, ‘it is usually not actively validating blocks because the block throughput isn’t usually sufficiently high to keep the node busy at all time.’
In sum, KtorZ noted that resources are underutilized in the Cardano nodes and that Leios is about utilizing such idle resources and making the chain more parallel.
[Ouroboros Leios] is about harnessing the true power of unspent transaction output (UTxO).
Notably, Leios proposes to separate the construction of the current ADA chain into three new types of blocks, produced at different rates and with other purposes. Namely, Input blocks, Endorsement blocks, and Ranking blocks.
According to the analyst, Ranking blocks are similar to the current ones. However, they would be produced sequentially and serve as checkpoints, allowing everyone to agree on some global state regularly.
On the other hand, Endorsement blocks are ways for the chain to reach an agreement with a relatively high degree of confidence. According to the analyst, Leios proposes introducing endorsement certificates that inform nodes about how many peers or stakeholders approve of certain events.
