The social media firm and the parent company for both Facebook and Instagram Meta has announced plans to roll out a new feature allowing users to create and trade non-fungible tokens on Instagram.
In a November 3 blog post, the social media firm confirmed plans to develop an NFT minting and trading feature for its Instagram app. The upcoming “end-to-end toolkit” for NFTs will allow users to seamlessly create and launch their own NFTs for sale through Instagram.
Meta’s NFT Creation And Trading Feature
While commenting about the now highly anticipated NFT project, Stephane Kasriel, the Head of Commerce and Fintech at Meta, revealed that it would begin rolling out the new minting and trading feature to a small group of creators before offering the service to a broader audience. Kasriel explained:
“A small group of creators will soon be able to create digital collectibles (NFTs) and sell them right on Instagram.”
Among creators listed for early access to the new Instagram NFT feature included the most well-known NFT photographer DrifterShoots, visual artist Ilse Valfré, and artist and graphic designer Amber Vittoria, among others.
Meta’s NFT Push This Year
In the past few months, Meta has been broadening its infrastructure in the Web3 ecosystem. Earlier in May, the social media firm announced a wallet connection feature allowing a select group of creators to display their NFTs directly on their Instagram and Facebook profiles.
A few months later, the tech giant enabled all Facebook and Instagram users from the United States and other 100+ countries globally to display their digital collectibles right from their profiles.
Currently, Facebook and Instagram support displaying digital collectibles on the Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow networks, allowing users to connect their wallets to their accounts to display NFTs.
Moreover, Meta recently announced support for Solana and Phantom wallets. The new Instagram feature will use the Polygon blockchain for NFT minting. The app will also extract NFT metadata from OpenSea to flawlessly showcase collection names and descriptions on Instagram.
