The much anticipated ‘Vasil’ hard fork upgrade has finally been launched on the Cardano testnet, bringing the network’s mainnet one step closer to experiencing significant performance upgrades.

Vasil Live on Cardano Testnet

In the last week of June, Input Output Global (IOG), the lead development team of Cardano, submitted a revised proposal for its hard fork, the Cardano testnet, and started the countdown to the Vasil mainnet upgrade thereafter.

On July 3rd, at 20:20 UTC, IOG announced that the Vasil hard fork (epoch 215) upgrade had successfully launched on the Cardano testnet.

Mainnet Close to Vasil Hard Fork

According to the IOG, exchanges and Stake Pool (NASDAQ:POOL) Operators (SPO) would require at least four weeks to test Vasil’s deployment on the testnet.

Once the tests are completed, IOG will prepare to deploy the hard fork on the Cardano mainnet. This means that the earliest date for Vasil’s deployment is the last week of July.

Once Vasil has been deployed, the Cardano mainnet is expected to enjoy faster block creation and greater scalability for the network. Additionally, it would also introduce interoperability between Cardano side chains.

On the Flipside

  • IOG announced that there would be no proposal to deploy the Vasil hard fork on the mainnet until ecosystem partners indicicate their readiness.
