Leading crypto hardware wallet provider ‘Ledger’ has announced an upgrade for the Cardano (ADA) app which introduces the smart contract functionality of the Cardano ecosystem.

Cardano App Now Supports Smart Contracts

In September 2021, the Alonzo hard fork introduced the Cardano community to smart contract functionality for the first time. However, the compatibility has been lacking on the Cardano app for more than six months.

On Tuesday, April 26th, Ledger announced that the Cardano app had been upgraded to v.4.0.0, with the highlight of the upgrade being the introduction of smart contract functionality to the app. Ledger tweeted;

The app now provides users with access to the growing Cardano decentralized finance ecosystem via ‘YoROI’ and ‘AdaLite’. Ledger also revealed that, with the upgrade, users can now sign smart contracts on the Cardano app.

Cardano Founder Reacts

The announcement was well received by the Cardano community, and even caught the attention of Charles Hoskinson, Cardano’s CEO and Co-Founder.

Hoskinson took to Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) to celebrate the new milestone for Cardano. Replying to the announcement, he wrote: “Moving the chains. Great work, Ledger.”
