Founded in 1906 by German immigrant Leo Samuel, The Standard Insurance Company has expanded to provide coverage for over 8.5 million people.  The Standard is a leading provider of financial services and products such as individual disability insurance, dental insurance, retirement plans, annuities and group life insurance.

The company is licensed in 49 states and Washington, DC. In New York, it has Standard Life Insurance Company of New York.

The company’s assets total about $14.5 billion (March 31, 2009) with a December 2005 revenue of roughly $2.1 billion.
