We recently spoke with Mark Breen, who has 18 years experience running great events. He’s the Co-Founder and Senior Partner of Cuckoo Events, an award winning event management company. We’re also lucky to have him speaking at Brite Space Dublin about ‘How telling stories can grow your business‘, which takes place at lunchtime on Monday, November 17th.

In 3 lines, tell us about yourself and Cuckoo Events

I’m an events professional and Graduate Member of the Marketing Institute of Ireland. I’m a SAGE Business Expert. I have a lot of tattoos and I drive a motorbike as well as the Cuckoo Events branded jeep. Cuckoo Events is an events business, uniquely positioned as a result of the team we’ve put together. We’re all nice and that keeps us busy.

Whats the best event you ever attended?

Tough one. I’ve worked on the London Olympics. I was in France for the World Cup final in 1998 when France won and watched it at a wicked event on a beach. The best was probably Lovebox when it came to Dublin and N.E.RD. played. I was on stage, with Pharrell Williams, dancing to Lapdance.

What was the first event you ever organised?

Wow. The first proper one was our Transition Year class trip to Barcelona. It was the first year of TY here and we were determined to make the most of it. Around 45 of us went and it was a great experience organising it.

What’s the best advice you can give to anyone organising an event?

That’s an easy one! Start early.

What’s the best advice you can give to twenty somethings who’re about to begin their careers?

Put yourself out there. Prove yourself.

What are your plans with Cuckoo Events for the future?

We’re going to continue striving to make people happy by making great events happen. We’ll continue to do do things our way. We’ll challenge the industry more and more and, hopefully, help improve standards and processes in general. We’re going to become an industry leader in a number of key areas.
