Nicole Scherzinger is an international icon. She’s a multi-million album selling pop star as both a solo artist and lead singer of Pussycat Dolls; an actress; winner of Dancing With The Stars; beloved former X-Factor judge; and she works for a variety of good causes.
However what really endears her to fans and the media is her quirky personality and wonderful ‘Scherz-isms’ – completely made-up words and phrases that just work!
Given her accomplishments, it goes without saying she’s got some great advice to share with event organisers, and here it is:
In other words: Don’t try to be something you’re not. Serve your attendees well, always offer them fresh and surprising new experiences, but you don’t have to jump on some trend just because it’s popular. Do what makes your event great and experiment if you’re confident it will add value to your audience.
In other words: The job of an event organiser is never done. You can always do things bigger, better or more efficiently. The end of one event is the beginning of the next one, so learn from feedback and keep striving for more!
In other words: Don’t over-complicate the process of launching new events or initiatives. If you know your audience, you understand their needs and you believe your event will add value to their lives – then go for it! Those really authentic events, with a passionate community that start in a shed somewhere…they’re the ones that become popular and grow massive.
In other words: The job of an event organiser isn’t easy! It can be stressful, hard work and frustrating at times. However tomorrow is always another day, and people spend their whole lives in the industry because overall it serves up a lot more highs than lows.
In other words: Chasing a dream or fighting for the best interests of your attendees? Then don’t worry if you have to negotiate a little hard sometimes, twist some arms or bend the rules. So long as you don’t actually hurt anyone or step over the line, it’s OK to be ambitious and fight for what you want.
In other words: Life doesn’t hand you opportunities on a plate. You have to earn them, and that takes balls. You’ll need to go the extra mile, take some risks and be confident in your career if you want to be a success in the events industry.
In other words: Sometimes we have to learn to just say ‘no.’ It’s a hard word to master for many people, particularly if you’re just starting out in your career and want to be seen as a pro-active go-getter. However there comes a time when taking on too much will mean you drop the ball and that helps no one. So learn to be strategic with what you take on, and don’t be afraid to say ‘no’ to requests that don’t fit in with your plan.
