Ring is feeling extra generous with its new $60 smart doorbell—a gadget that’s around $40 cheaper than Ring’s lowest-priced doorbell. Titled Ring Video Doorbell Wired, this gadget uses a wire rather than battery connectivity to keep its production price so low. And measuring 10.1 x 4.57 x 2.24 cm, Ring’s latest release is much slimmer and smaller than its predecessors. 

High-quality video resolution and night video

Ring’s new $60 smart doorbell offers 1080p video resolution, two-way audio with noise cancelation, and night vision. In addition, it also has an IP65 rating to remain durable against dust and water sprays from all angles. These are the same specifications as Ring’s battery-powered smart doorbell.

Furthermore, it boasts customizable motion zones, so you can adjust the camera’s field of view to 155 degrees horizontal and 90 degrees vertical to set a ‘privacy zone’. This function will block out areas that you don’t want the camera to record. But your safety is still Ring’s main priority, as the camera will automatically start recording if it detects motion nearby.

Receive alerts wherever you are

Ring’s latest smart doorbell will also send you alerts when a visitor presses the doorbell or it triggers motion via the sensors. So, no matter where you are, you can receive notifications that your home is safe.

Furthermore, you can use the Ring app to communicate with delivery drivers or friends when they’re at your door. With real-time audio and video, you can connect with people wherever you are.

Is a wired smart doorbell a big flaw?

The biggest difference between this latest release and the ring Video Doorbell is that it doesn’t work with an existing doorbell chime when wired and lacks a battery connection. Without a battery connection, you don’t have the flexibility to place the doorbell anywhere outside of your home, because you require a wired connection.

On the other hand, there are no signals transmitted over the air when using a wired smart doorbell, which results in fewer interferences. Therefore, your wired doorbell is more likely to have a strong connection at all times. Not to mention that you don’t have to reinstall the doorbell’s batteries often, resulting in more upkeep.

You can now preorder the Ring smart doorbell for $59.99 from Ring and Amazon, ahead of a February 24th release date. It’s much cheaper than the brand’s $250 Video Doorbell Pro.
