From the Tour de France to celebrating teamwork, read on for topical ideas and July-themed inspiration for your upcoming events this month!
Focus on teamwork
There are two big sporting events coming in July: the Tour de France starts in Leeds on July 3rd and then the F1 comes to Silverstone just 3 days later.
On the face of it, cycling and motor racing are quite individual sports, with stars like Bradly Wiggins and Chris Froome in cycling, and Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel in Formula 1.
However, look at the sports a little closer and you realise they’re both underpinned by a huge amount of teamwork which enables the star performers to win.
Most businesses work in a similar way. It’s easy to get distracted by standout successes: the sales person who closes big contracts, the marketer who gets national press coverage, or the content manager who confirms a huge speaker or artist.
They deserve the praise, but it’s important to understand how much teamwork goes into the final result. Are you giving enough credit to the rest of the team, the behind-the-scenes hard workers who create the opportunities, take away unnecessary distractions and build systems that help the stars to shine?
Why not make July the month of teamwork and praising everyone who enables success?
Succeeding in the events industry
Talking of standout successes, how do you establish yourself as a top performer in the events industry? We had a few posts that touched on this topic in June.
We looked at the 14 Traits of Highly Effective Event Professionals, and 8 Morning Rituals To Keep You Fresh & Focused Throughout Your Event for those who are striving to achieve their best in July (and beyond).
If you want to branch out and build your own company, then you should definitely check out our interview with the founder and CEO of The Eventa Group, Rob Hill, who spoke to us about Being an Entrepreneur in the Events Industry.

Food For Thought in July
July’s food inspiration starts with a play on the US Independence Day, with July 4th bringing us ‘Independence from Meat Day’. Why not embrace your inner-veggie and discard the burgers and sausages for just one day, and let your guests explore some meat-free alternatives?
If you’re feeling flush this month, or just want to make a real statement of luxury at your next event, then Saturday 18th July is Caviar Day. If your budget can stretch to it, maybe you can treat your event’s attendees to some of the real deal? If not, there’s always fish fingers…
Last but not least, Thursday 30th July see a much cheaper and more versatile food take centre stage – it’s Cheesecake Day! From plain vanilla to chocolate, key lime to strawberry, hard-based or soft, there’s no end of choice to offer your guests if you embrace this tasty desert!
Themes to Embrace In July
The UK (and particularly Yorkshire) will be going cycling crazy with the Tour de France route starting there for the first ever time. There are events such as The Science Behind The Tour de France, Business for Calderdale’s Tour de France Event at The Fleece Inn, and the July Tour de France Celebration at The Box Tree.
Why not host your own party or event to coincide with the occasion? If you’re further south, you can wait until the stage reaches you (it reaches London July 7th), and if it isn’t going to pass through your county or city, then you can still get in on the action with cycling-themed events anyway!
July 4th is US Independence Day. As with many of the big the US holidays, people in the UK are increasingly aware of it, and there are even dedicated events being put on to celebrate the occasion, such as the American Independence Day Picnic in Portman Square, or Independence Day themed events like Curious Beer Club’s – Independence Day Special.
Maybe you should get out your star-spangled banner and create a US-themed event this month?
