In just a few days, a caravan of New York’s best food trucks will take the to tarmac, driving from Manhattan to Bridgehampton, stocked and ready to transform the potato fields outside the Hayground School into a foodie’s paradise. Sponsored by Edible East End, a food and drink magazine celebrating the rich history and unique craft of local food, The Great Food Truck Derby will provide attendees with a tasty dish from each truck. Food lovers will have an opportunity to sample everything from tacos to ice pops, cider to lemonade, all just moments from the beach.

Edible East End Editor’s Brian Halwei stated, “Our events are where the magazine comes to life. And where we help readers live the Edible lifestyle. Attendees can taste the products and meet the people we profile in the magazine.” This second annual Food Truck Derby also brings the magazine’s “favorite food trucks from New York City and Long Island to one place so we can enjoy them all in an afternoon.” The East End doesn’t have the same food truck culture as the city, Halwei explained, “where you can go to a bustling intersection in Manhattan and sup from a handful of great food trucks, so we wanted to create that environment–at least for one day–in our backyard.” It is their hope that this event also inspires some of the trucks to build a more permanent presence in the East End.

Helping transform The Great Food Truck Derby into the go-to family event of the summer is Eventbrite. As Michaela Johnson, Edible’s events coordinator explained, “Eventbrite’s online app is great for tracking ticket sales, enabling us to manage attendees even standing in line at the grocery store.” Eventbrite also simplifies the check in process on the day of the event, “helping us expedite lines at our events,” Michaela added. Finally, Edible East End uses Eventbrite because it links seamlessly to their website.  “We just love Eventbrite,” Michaela mentioned, “The product is so user friendly for event organizers who aren’t necessarily the most tech savvy.”

So what’s Edible East End’s favorite thing about sharing their events with the local community? “Knowing that people are being exposed to some really talented food and drink purveyors,” Halwei observed. Because Edible East End creates casual events where people are able to sample great food and drink from both new and recurring vendors, they have the opportunity to interact with chefs, brewers, winemakers and other food and drink makers face to face. Here at Eventbrite, we’re thrilled they love our product and are excited to help them make The Great Food Truck Derby a smash hit!
