Last year, Pinterest noticed Pinners creating tons of boards around the vacations they were planning, special places near where they live, and sites they want to see some day. In an effort to help people turn their travel inspiration into a reality, Pinterest recently unveiled their newest feature, Place Pins.
Place Pins, according to Pinterest’s blog, were designed to combine the imagery of a travel magazine with the utility of a map online so you can share them with friends. Place Pins can be accessed from anywhere (web or smartphone), which means they can be used on the go or to get directions. They also include extra details (like addresses & phone numbers right on the Pin) so you can easily access info. While Place Pins were originally created for travelers, we’re really excited about the opportunities lie within this new feature for the event industry.
The opportunities are endless, but here are some of the reasons we’re mad for this new feature:
Favourite Venues Do you have a handful of favourite spots to host events, or a few go-to spots that you always recommend if people ask you for a list of venues? Use Place Pins to showcase all of the venues in one single place!
Favourite Vendors Similar to a favourite venues board, use Place Pins to showcase all of your favourite vendors. Ideal for corporate or wedding planners who might have a few go-to florists, bartenders, or DJs.
Satellite Events Are you hosting one big event that has lots of satellite events associated with it, like Tech Open Air Berlin? Use Place Pins to map out all of the different spots that will be hosting events during the week.
Top Events of the Week/Month/Season Want to curate and share a quick list of the top events going on? Use Place Pins to share your top 5 picks, and be sure to include links so people can purchase tickets or register, if need be.
Out of Town Events Are you planning a big event outside of the city where you reside? Place Pins would be great for mapping out all of your stops during the trip: event venues, daytime activities, restaurants and nightlife, etc.
Check out some of the boards that have already been created using Place Pins — and let us know if you create one, we’d love to see how you’re using them!
