Each October, the American Branch presents International Law Weekend (ILW) in New York City. This two-and-a-half-day conference features over 30 panels, and many of the world's leading international lawyers and diplomats participate. In recent years, keynote luncheon speakers have included the president of the American Society of International Law and the Legal Adviser to the U.S. Department of State. Gala receptions have been hosted by the Finnish, Belgian, British, and Singapore missions to the United Nations. International Law Weekend 2023 (ILW), the premier international law event of the fall season, will be held October 19-21, 2023 in New York City. The unifying theme for ILW 2023 is "Beyond International Law." The conference will explore how international law can adapt to become more effective in responding to the world's shifting crises, such as climate change, prolonged armed conflicts, and entrenched economic and social inequalities. ILW 2023 will feature a diverse set of engaging and provocative panels, plenary sessions, and keynote addresses. The program will include a broad array of both public international law and private international law topics, many of which will offer Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits. The Weekend also includes networking opportunities for both professionals and students, social events, and award ceremonies. Here are some of the highlights of ILW 2023: High-Level Opening Plenary: The High-Level Opening Plenary will feature a keynote address by a distinguished international law expert, as well as a panel discussion with other leading practitioners and academics. Keynote Addresses: ILW 2023 will feature four keynote addresses by experts on a variety of international law topics. Panels: ILW 2023 will feature over 35 panels on a wide range of international law topics, including: Climate change and international law International law and armed conflict International criminal law International human rights law International trade law Investment law International arbitration ILW 2023 is a must-attend event for anyone interested in international law.
