Here are a few topical ideas and May-themed inspiration for your upcoming events this month!
Food For Thought in May
A key component to almost every successful event is the food experience! May offers several opportunities to get ‘on trend’ and offer your attendees some tasty treats.
Top of the list is BBQ food (one of my personal favourites!), and this lasts the whole month thanks to it being national BBQ month! For some great visual inspiration to create a mouth-watering BBQ menu, take a look at this dedicated Pinterest page.
If you’re lucky enough to be hosting an event on May 11th then let your guests go wild with their diets because it’s Eat What You Want Day.
Hopefully they’ll leave some room for desert though, because May 12th is Nutty Fudge Day!
Last but not least, May 28th is Hamburger Day, so try to include some delicious beef patties on the menu in celebration!
Themes to Embrace in May
Moving on from food, if you’re looking for May-themed inspiration for your upcoming event, then here are a few ideas to explore…
Show some Euro-love because Europe Day falls in May, a celebration of peace and unity in Europe. Ironically, two major EU institutions can’t agree on the date though, so May 5th and May 9th are both valid days to go big on Europe at your event.
Think about hosting your event in a museum on May 18th, because it’s International Museum Day, and show your support for these amazing institutions!
Starting on May 19th is National Smile Month, aimed at raising awareness of oral health. They would love for you to host an event to help support the cause, and if you’re considering it, we hope you’ll use Eventbrite to ticket it!
Topical Idea: Plan for succession

Recently, with Manchester United’s sacking of David Moyes just months after Alex Ferguson’s departure last season, and yesterday’s announcement that Jeremy Paxman will be leaving Newsnight after after 25 years, succession planning seems like a great idea.
Every organisation has someone (or hopefully many!) people they know it will be hard to replace. They might have a particularly strong relationship with your key client, or an uncanny ability to think up creative new ideas event after event, or they inspire team cohesion just by being in the office.
Are you prepared for when your top salesperson, creative inspiration or tireless leader moves on? Do you have a succession plan? To avoid the mistakes seen at Manchester United, you should start thinking about it today if you haven’t already.
Avoid missed opportunities this month
Are you leaving ‘easy’ money on the table?
We know it’s hard building an events business, and every ticket sold is a victory worth celebrating, so it makes sense to ask yourself this question, and then figure out how to fill the gaps.
Last month we looked at three ways you could be missing out on maximising your revenue, including an underperforming website, not building repeat attendance, and not offering a great mobile experience.
